Letter About April 6 Congregational Meeting

On Sunday, April 6, immediately following each worship service, we will hold a brief congregational meeting for the purpose of voting on the unanimous Session recommendation to make JT Hoover, Caleb Blow, and Jonathan Taylor Associate Pastors.

The PCA has three classifications of pastors—Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, and Assistant Pastor. Senior Pastors and Associate Pastors are voting members of the Session. Assistant Pastors are non-voting guests of the Session. Typically, in our congregation and in many other congregations in the PCA, a man is called to serve as an Assistant Pastor first. Then, after at least two years of faithful service, he is called by the congregation as an Associate Pastor. It’s an affirmation by the congregation that he has earned the right to serve as an equal member on the Session, having an equal say in the decision-making aspect of the Session.

Currently, JT Hoover and Caleb Blow are Assistant Pastors. Jonathan Taylor is an ordained pastor in the PCA, but honorably retired. That means that he too is a non-voting guest of the Session. After 27 years of pastoral and global missionary service, Jonathan retired in 2019 when he began ministering in the business world. However, Jonathan returned to pastoral ministry in 2022 when he began serving at Westminster. As a result, he now desires to formally come out of retirement.

By recommending that these three men become Associate Pastors, the Session recognizes their outstanding, gifted, and caring service to our congregation. We desire for them to be affirmed in their ministries and to have equal participation on our Session. Your vote will make that determination. Please plan to stay for a few minutes after your worship service. There we will answer questions if necessary and then vote.

Your fellow servant,
Mike Honeycutt
Senior Pastor, Westminster Presbyterian Church
