A New Chapter for Catawba Terrace Care Center
For more than 30 years, the Catawba Terrace Care Center has been a tangible expression of Westminster’s commitment to love and serve our neighbors. Through the Care Center, thousands of children and families have been welcomed, fed, encouraged, prayed for, and shown the love and hope of Christ.
The work that began through the Care Center will continue through both new partnerships and long-standing relationships in the Catawba Terrace community.
A New Use for the Care Center Property
The Care Center is an independent 501(c)(3) ministry of Westminster’s diaconate. This means that the Care Center’s property is not owned by Westminster but rather owned by the Care Center, a non-profit supported by Westminster and specifically the diaconate. After prayerful consideration, the Care Center Board has decided to dissolve the Care Center. As part of this transition, the Care Center will donate the Edwards Street property to The Life House Women’s Shelter, another non-profit 501(c)(3) ministry Westminster helped establish. This gift will allow a home currently used only a few hours each week to become a safe and stable place for two families. We are grateful to see this property continue to serve our neighbors in a new way and be used more fully throughout the week.
Kid’s Club Will Continue
At the same time, Saturday Morning Kid’s Club will continue at Rock Hill Bible Fellowship, a church located in the heart of Catawba Terrace. Westminster will continue supporting Kid’s Club financially and through volunteers. It is a meaningful full-circle moment to see this ministry continue alongside a former neighborhood church plant.
We are deeply grateful for the many volunteers who have faithfully served through Kid’s Club over the years, especially Chip Latham, longtime Director of the Care Center. It is encouraging to see this ministry continue within the neighborhood, and we are grateful that Chip will continue investing in the children and families of Catawba Terrace through Kid’s Club.
Continuing to Serve Catawba Terrace
Westminster also remains committed to meeting tangible needs and building relationships within the Catawba Terrace community. Our partnership with Hope of Rock Hill has expanded our ability to provide food to local families, and in the coming months we will continue developing opportunities to serve and invest in the neighborhood, including through Richmond Drive Elementary School.
The way we serve may be changing, but the heart remains the same: loving our neighbors, serving families, and sharing the hope of the Gospel.
We are grateful for more than 30 years of faithful ministry through the Catawba Terrace Care Center and for every person who has prayed, served, given, and invested in this community. This is not the end of that mission. It is an opportunity to carry it forward in new ways as we continue seeking to love and serve our neighbors well.
