Session Update — January 2025
Dear Westminster Presbyterian Church Family,
Please read on for an update from the Session’s January meeting.
SESSION ELDERS
This month we welcomed several elders back onto the Session after December’s officer elections. From now through February 23, we will be accepting nominations for the next class of elders and deacons. Please go to wpcgo.com/on to nominate men who you think would serve our congregation well in these important offices.
PHILOSOPHY OF WORSHIP
Last month, we shared an update about a collaborative effort involving our staff, worship volunteers from both services, and Session members to draft a Philosophy of Worship. This document serves to articulate Westminster’s vision for worship by reflecting on how we currently worship and outlining hopes for the future. In the January meeting, the Session approved the final draft. This document will be shared with the congregation in the coming months.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY UPDATE
This month’s ministry update came from our Families and Children’s Ministry. Pastor JT shared some sweet stories about our children coming to faith and expressing their understanding of the gospel. While numbers don’t tell the whole picture, he shared that we have an average of 91 kids in our programs on Sunday mornings, 125 in Vacation Bible School, and 67 participating in Kingdom Kids on Wednesday evenings. To accommodate our growing children’s ministry, it takes a dedicated team of 156 volunteers each month to operate our Wednesday and Sunday programs. Please consider volunteering to serve these precious children. You can sign up to help in a variety of capacities on our website at wpcgo.com/volunteer.
STAFFING UPDATE
The Session is pleased to recommend to the congregation the transition of three of our church leaders into Associate Pastor roles. Caleb Blow (Assistant Pastor of Student Ministries), JT Hoover (Assistant Pastor of Families and Children), and Jonathan Taylor (Director of Missions and Discipleship) have faithfully and effectively served our congregation well over the last several years. One of the distinctions of an Associate Pastor role is that these men will become full voting members of the Session. Since the calling of an Associate Pastor requires a vote by the congregation, we will hold a congregational meeting soon to vote on this significant change.
Please stay tuned each month for continued updates from the Westminster Session. If you have questions about any of the items mentioned in this monthly update or want more details, please email wpcsession@wpcgo.com.
