Session Update — July 2025

Dear Westminster Presbyterian Church Family,

Please read on for an update from the Session’s July meeting.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN FEASIBILITY STUDY REPORT

Thank you to the many who participated in our recent capital campaign feasibility study and survey, which wrapped up at the end of June. We are grateful to share that over 300 individuals completed the survey.

At this month’s Session meeting, our capital campaign consultants shared a very encouraging report affirming the strong potential for a successful capital campaign to renovate our campus. The feedback and insights gathered were positive, and we are thoughtfully reviewing them as we prepare for next steps. We look forward to sharing more details during Vision & Connect Sunday next month.

VISION AND CONNECT SUNDAY

Mark your calendar for Sunday, August 17, as we come together for Vision Sunday and our annual Connect @WPC event.

At 10am in the Sanctuary, we will host a Vision Meeting where we will present our 5-year vision and key churchwide objectives. These include:

  • The launch of a new discipleship pathway
  • A renewed commitment to becoming a more welcoming church
  • An update on the capital campaign and campus renovation project

Then from 11am to 1pm in Westminster Hall, Connect @WPC will take place alongside and following our regular worship service. This casual and interactive event is a great opportunity to learn about what is happening across our church, meet ministry leaders, and discover ways to get involved. Enjoy pizza, Kona Ice, and great conversation as we kick off a new season of life together at WPC. We look forward to sharing this important day with you.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY UPDATE

Courtney Denton, Director of Mercy and Women’s Ministries, shared an encouraging update on the vibrant work of our women’s ministry in 2025. Through our discipleship ministry, over 160 women engaged deeply in God’s word through the Judges For You study. Looking ahead, be sure to register for our fall study, From Garden to Glory by Courtney Doctor — an opportunity you won’t want to miss. You can register now at wpcgo.com/discipleship.

This summer, our women gathered for book chats and a study of Refresh by Shona and David Murray, a timely invitation to embrace a grace-paced life in the midst of our busy world. Additional events like Women’s Meet & Greets and Popsicles & Prayer at Westminster Park offered opportunities for connection, prayer, and encouragement.

Our women’s ministry also extends care in tangible ways — from delivering baby bundles to new moms and providing bereavement meals for grieving families, to serving our broader community through partnerships with Richmond Drive Elementary and ministries like the Palmetto Women’s Center.

Please join us in thanking the many women who faithfully serve and extend Christ’s love in word and deed to our church family and beyond.

10AM GATHERING HOUR

On Sunday, August 24, we will offer a new “gathering place” during the 10am hour for those who may not have a group to attend between services. This time is designed to help people get oriented, ask questions, and feel more connected to the life of the church. We will have a Q&A session addressing commonly asked questions about Christianity as well as a series of rotating ministry presentations, offering attendees the chance to learn more about various areas of church life and how to get involved. This new gathering will take place in the former library space, creating a welcoming and accessible hub for information and connection. All existing Sunday morning groups will continue to meet as normal.

PASTORAL CARE UPDATE

As we mark two months since Don Gillespie’s retirement, our pastoral staff and ministry leaders have stepped into a rotating on-call schedule to ensure that the needs of our congregation are continually met with care and compassion. We are especially grateful to Mike Russo, one of our elders, who has graciously stepped in as Interim Coordinator of Pastoral Care to help bridge the gap during this time of transition following Don’s departure. If you have prayer needs, please email pastoralcare@wpcgo.com and someone from our team will reach out to you.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY REPORT

This June, Pastor Caleb represented Westminster at the 52nd General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America held in Chattanooga, TN. The General Assembly(GA) is the highest court of our denomination, gathering pastors and elders from across the country to worship together, encourage one another, and deliberate on matters of theology, church practice, and denominational direction. If you’d like to read a recap of this year’s GA, you can find one at byfaithonline.com/general-assembly-full-recap.

Please stay tuned each month for continued updates from the Westminster Session. If you have questions about any of the items mentioned in this monthly update or want more details, please email wpcsession@wpcgo.com.
