Session Update — March 2025

Dear Westminster Presbyterian Church Family,

Please read on for an update from the Session’s March meeting.

YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY UPDATE

Pastor Jonathan provided an update to the Session on the recent activities of the Young Adult ministry. This ministry serves both college students and young professionals, helping them connect with the larger church community and build relationships with others in similar life stages. Regular events include a supper club, an annual fall retreat, mission trips, and various other gatherings. Over the past two years, the ministry has been providing weekly meals for over 60 people staying at the Pathways shelters. If you're interested in getting involved in the Young Adult ministry, please contact Katie Hughes at khughes@wpcgo.com.

VISION STATEMENT AND CHURCHWIDE OBJECTIVES

Pastor Mike and Executive Director Steve Smith presented an initial draft of a new vision statement to guide Westminster’s ministry over the next five years. Along with the vision statement, the Session reviewed a draft of churchwide objectives for 2025, which will help us achieve our short-term goals. Once the Session approves the vision statement, we will share it with the congregation. Exciting things are happening at Westminster, and we look forward to sharing our future direction with you.

PCA GENERAL ASSEMBLY

General Assembly is the highest governing body in our denomination which is responsible for overseeing the theological, doctrinal, and administrative aspects of the PCA. It is composed of commissioners selected from each local church. The 2025 General Assembly will be held in Chattanooga, TN from June 23-27. We plan to send two delegates to represent Westminster in this important gathering. Please be in prayer for those who will be attending and for the whole General Assembly as they gather to conduct the important business of our congregation.

WORSHIP UPDATE

One item from the February Session meeting that was inadvertently left out of last month’s update was a discussion about communion. As mentioned in Pastor Mike’s letter late last year, he shared the plan to invite the congregation to tables for the Lord’s Supper on occasions during the year. The Session has agreed to continue this practice on Maundy Thursday, as we have in past years, as well as on two additional Sundays throughout the year.

Please stay tuned each month for continued updates from the Westminster Session. If you have questions about any of the items mentioned in this monthly update or want more details, please email wpcsession@wpcgo.com.
