Session Update — May 2025

Dear Westminster Presbyterian Church Family,

Please read on for an update from the Session’s May meeting.

Westminster Catawba Christian School

Each month, one of our ministries shares an update with the Session. This month, Scott Dillon, Head of School, presented an encouraging report on Westminster Catawba Christian School (WCCS). He shared updates on the overall health of the school, including exciting news about new hires, steady enrollment growth, and a transition to a new independent school association in South Carolina. Notably, the ByFaith magazine of the PCA reported that WCCS is now the fifth largest PCA-affiliated school in our denomination. It was a positive and promising glimpse into the continued momentum at WCCS following another strong and fruitful academic year.

As school winds down for the summer months, please join us in praying for a renewal of the Holy Spirit among the faculty, staff, and students. We also ask for your prayers for wisdom and discernment in strategic planning, as leadership seeks to faithfully steward the school’s growth and prepare for all that God has in store.

Pastoral Care

Don Gillespie, Director of Pastoral Care, and Jonathan Taylor shared updates on our Pastoral Care ministry, including GriefShare and Stephen Ministries. After more than a decade of faithful and compassionate service, Don Gillespie is retiring from his role at the end of this month.

Under Don’s leadership, our pastoral care ministry has flourished – extending Christ-centered support to countless individuals and families in times of need. We are deeply grateful for Don’s extraordinary dedication and the Christlike compassion he has shown throughout his ministry. He will be greatly missed.

More communication will follow regarding Don’s retirement and the way we will handle pastoral care needs after his departure. Please join us in thanking Don for his impact and praying for Don and his wife, Jan, as they enter this new season of life.

Campus Improvements

We are excited to share a positive update about the upfitting of the Annex Building, located next to the playground. Plans are actively underway to transform this space into a dedicated area for our growing Student Ministry, which has outgrown its location in Westminster Hall. By making strategic improvements to an existing building on our campus, we are creating a more suitable and spacious temporary home for our students that will better support the dynamic and vibrant ministry happening among our students. This is an important step as we continue to invest in the next generation and provide environments where they can grow in faith, fellowship, and discipleship.

In addition to the exciting updates on the Annex Building, we are pleased to share that the organ in the Sanctuary will be undergoing much-needed repairs and updates. This cherished instrument has long been a vital part of the history of worship services, enriching our services with its beauty and depth. We are grateful for the opportunity to invest in its restoration, ensuring that it continues to inspire and support our worship for generations to come. The renovation will begin in the weeks to come, and we look forward to hearing its familiar sound fill the Sanctuary once again.

Please stay tuned each month for continued updates from the Westminster Session. If you have questions about any of the items mentioned in this monthly update or want more details, please email wpcsession@wpcgo.com.
