Session Update — October 2025
Dear Westminster Presbyterian Church Family,
Please read on for an update from the Session’s October meeting.
CHURCHWIDE OBJECTIVE UPDATES
In this month’s meeting, several of our leaders provided updates on the status of our churchwide objectives, adopted by the Session earlier this year.
Discipleship Pathway - Rev. Jonathan Garrett reported on our discipleship pathway initiative, through which Westminster aims to form mature, equipped, and missional followers of Christ. Current ministry vehicles include small groups, Sunday morning classes, and our Discovery Series for new members, with plans to expand into additional offerings in the future. The long-term goal is to establish a three- to five-year discipleship plan that nurtures sustained spiritual growth and deeper engagement across the congregation.
Welcoming Church - Pastor Jonathan also reported on our ongoing efforts to cultivate a more welcoming church culture. Through visits to other congregations, we have identified several best practices that Westminster can adopt as we strengthen our approach to welcoming guests. The Gathering Place continues to be an encouraging space for connection, as new attendees engage in genuine, organic conversations each week. In the future, we plan to enhance the Sunday morning experience for new attendees through our greeting team and other hospitality efforts.
Campus Renovation - The final churchwide objective centers on our upcoming campus renovation. Our capital campaign consultant was onsite for this meeting to orient the Session to our upcoming fundraising efforts. With the feasibility study and due diligence complete, strategic planning is currently underway with the aim to launch a capital campaign in early 2026.
Deacon Daniel Gaulden, chair of the Campaign Steering Committee, shared an update on the project’s progress. While several key decisions remain, the committee is working diligently to define the project scope and cost. Plans are expected to be shared with the congregation at the beginning of the new year.
OFFICER ELECTIONS
Earlier this year, the congregation nominated a group of men to stand for election as officers at Westminster. Over the past several months, these nominees have engaged in a process of discernment, training, and preparation to consider their call to serve. The Session has scheduled a congregational meeting in December to vote on their candidacy. Please watch for an official announcement confirming the date in the coming weeks.
2026 BUDGET
Each October, the Budget Committee begins planning for the coming year’s financial priorities. At this month’s meeting, the Session reviewed the first draft of the 2026 budget before it moves to the Diaconate for additional feedback. The final budget will be approved in December and finalized in January, after which it will be made available to the congregation at wpcgo.com/give.
Please stay tuned each month for continued updates from the Westminster Session. If you have questions about any of the items mentioned in this monthly update or want more details, please email wpcsession@wpcgo.com.
