Session Update - September 2026

Dear Westminster Presbyterian Church Family,

Please read on for an update from the Session’s September meeting.

Shepherding and Prayer

Before turning to the business of the meeting, the Session spent an extended time in prayer and discussion together. Rev. Caleb Blow led a devotion on the importance of prayer and our dependence on the Lord. The elders then spent time praying individually and in groups for our congregation, Westminster’s next season of ministry, one another, and for wisdom and faithfulness as they seek to shepherd our church well.

We are grateful for the privilege and responsibility of caring for the people God has entrusted to Westminster and remain committed to seeking him together throughout this season of transition.

The Great Commission at Westminster

As shared in last month’s update, the Session is setting aside intentional time this fall to consider important aspects of Westminster’s life and ministry. This month, the elders focused their discussion on the Great Commission and Christ’s call to make disciples.

Rev. JT Hoover led the Session in considering what this calling means for Westminster and how it should shape both what we do and how we evaluate our ministries. The conversation provided an opportunity to step back from the immediate decisions of this season and consider the larger mission Christ has entrusted to his Church.

As Westminster moves through a season of change, we are grateful that our mission remains unchanged: to make disciples of Jesus Christ and faithfully carry the gospel into our church, our community, and the world.

Discovery Class Update

On Sunday, September 13, 38 individuals attended our Discovery Class to learn more about Westminster, the Presbyterian Church in America, and what it means to become a member of our church. Rev. Jonathan Garrett shared an update from the class, and several elders committed to helping conduct membership interviews with those who choose to take the next step toward membership.

We are incredibly encouraged to welcome so many people who are exploring what it means to be involved at Westminster. Even in a season of transition, we continue to see evidence of the Lord’s provision and faithfulness as he brings new people into the life of our church.

2026 Officer Elections

During the senior pastor transition and the launch of the Forward Together campaign, the Session chose not to open a new officer nomination process in 2026. As a result, there are no new elder or deacon candidates to bring before the congregation for election this December.

The elders who are eligible to return to active service have already been elected by the congregation and do not require another congregational vote. Therefore, Westminster will not hold officer elections this December.

Finance Committee Update

Westminster’s newly established Finance Committee has begun meeting and provided the Session with an update on its early work. While general giving was lower than anticipated in July, August giving was the strongest we have seen for the month of August in several years. We are grateful for the faithful generosity of our congregation and, above all, for the Lord’s continued provision for Westminster.

The Finance Committee will continue its work as we carefully steward our resources and plan for the ministry needs of the coming year.

Thank you for your continued prayers, encouragement, and faithful participation in the life of Westminster. We are grateful for the privilege of serving alongside you as the Lord continues His work in our church.
